Random name picker wheel
Spin a colourful wheel of student names to choose who answers, who goes first or who helps today. Picked names can leave the wheel, so everyone gets a turn before anyone goes twice.
Add at least two names.
How to use it
- Type or paste your students’ names, one per line, or choose a class you made in Oly.
- Press Spin (or the space bar). The wheel slows down and lands on a name.
- Leave "Take picked names off the wheel" on, and everyone gets a turn before the wheel fills up again.
Ways to use it in class
- Cold calling, fairly: students know the wheel chooses, not the teacher.
- Choose who reads, who writes on the board or who answers next in a game.
- Pick classroom helpers for the week.
- Spin for topics or tasks instead of names: type them in the same list.
Questions teachers ask
Is the name picker really random?
Yes. Every name on the wheel has the same chance. With "Take picked names off the wheel" on, nobody is picked twice until everyone has had a turn.
Are my students’ names saved?
Only in this browser, on this computer, so the list is still there tomorrow. Oly never sends the names to a server.
How many names can the wheel hold?
Up to 100. With more than 40, the names on the wheel get small, but the picked name always shows big.
Can I use it for things other than names?
Yes. Type anything, one per line: topics, questions, groups or prizes.
Now play a game with your class
Oly turns any lesson into a team game on the same screen, with your phone as the remote. Free to start.
